Solo Mahjong Review: Getting Started

The wall consists of twenty-four face-down tiles. All you have to do is to left-click on a specific Mahjong tile to select it. Each player has 3 chances per round to get the right tile. You will be able to see how many picks you have left – this is displayed under the wall.

You will see your hand directly below the wall. To the right of this you will see the last tile that was picked. Above the last picked tile is a list of recently discarded tiles. When you choose a tile from the wall but don’t have a completed hand, a message – no hand – will be displayed on the screen. It is also possible to click on the tile if you want to discard it. After that you are allowed to pick another Mahjong tile. You get three chances to pick the correct tile before the round comes to an end.

Each of the following is considered to be a winning hand:
• Chee is a Solo Mahjong hand in which you have 3 tiles of sequential value and identical suit.
• Kong is a Solo Mahjong hand in which you have a set of 4 tiles of identical value and suit. Keep in mind that when you count your tiles, a Kong block counts as three tiles.
• Pair is a Solo Mahjong hand in which you have tiles of identical value and suit. You do not score any points for this hand.
• Pong is a Solo Mahjong hand in which you have a set of 3 tiles of identical value and suit.

The game of Solo Mahjong is mostly played with your left mouse button but you can also use other keyboard buttons if you prefer.
• The enter button serves the same purpose as the left click button, in other words it selects the highlighted button.
• The tab enter button highlights the next screen button.

Ninja Mahjong Instructions

The goal is to remove all 144 tiles from the board. You may only remove free paired tiles. A tile is free when no other tile is bordering it on the left and/or right side of it and no other tile is laying on top of or partially covering it. A pair consists of any two tiles that are exactly the same, any two of the four flower tiles and any two o the four geisha tiles. Use the “Peek” feature to slide the board left and right to see what awaits you. Use “Hint” to find a possible match, but your score will be reduced.

Game Variety

Opportunities are offered to play games for money or to play for practise and the money games vary between various types specific to Mahjong, such as International, classic and Riichi. All games can be practised at the practise table and with a little exploration of the site a nicely made tutorial can be found. This tells the new player that Mahjong is essentially a Far Eastern version of Rummy kub.

There are tournaments online as well as individual games with up to four players. There are a couple of problems with this site, the screen resolution if fixed for a bigger screen than the one my poor netbook has so I was restricted to seeing only about two thirds of what was on offer. Most people will be playing from their larger laptops or home desktop computers so that won’t be an issue, but still no self respecting gambling website should allow such a minor detail to cause problems to potential customers. The other issue and one that is as surprising as it is amateurish is that there is not a sign of a bonus in sight. There are simply no bonuses or freebies on offer anywhere to be seen on screen.

Summary

Despite these problems the game itself is remarkably addictive and fun to play, it takes a little time to figure out just how the game works but once you are into it, it is difficult to stop playing. Once the teething troubles of the site have been worked out emahjong could turn out to be an excellent site.
